Murray River country: an ecological dialogue with traditional owners Adapted from Weir's doctoral thesis, Murray River country examines the environmental tragedy of the Murray River and its catchments from an Aboriginal perspective. The Murray cuts through numerous language and ecological boundaries, and Weir contrasts the voices of the traditional owners with those of the 'moderns' – the dam builders and water controllers whose engineering 'solutions' have brought environmental devastation to communities along the river's length.
